Koru Art

Koru Art

My Papa has a very special name (Rare Toheriri Pohe). This name has been passed down from generation to generation. This is why he is the tallest koru.

My Nanny is the next tallest koru as she is my papa’s wife and now has the last name Pohe. She is a very special lady and I treasure her.

The next tallest koru is my mum. My mum is a very special lady to me as she is always there for me. She was a Pohe and then married. I put her as third koru because she is the youngest of 3 kids to my nanny and papa and she is also my mum. Inside my mum there is a small love heart koru and one on its own -  this stands for the children mum lost.

Next to my mum is my step dad. He is the smallest of the standing korus. He is not a Pohe but married to a Pohe. He is special to me as he teaches me new things.

In between my mum and dad there are three children. I am the third wahine of my whanau carrying the Pohe name that is what makes me special. The fourth wahine is my sister. Her last name is Pohe-Hardaker so she carries both last name’s through her. The third tane in my family is my brother Kade. He represents both last names as well. He is the smallest of the three of us.

In the middle up the very top of my Papa and Nanny is my Uncle Martin. My uncle has passed away but was a very clever man and carried the Pohe name through his journey of his live. I put him up the top as he is the only boy out of his three siblings and he has passed away.

Down the very bottom between my Papa and Nanny is the first daughter of the siblings. She is not a Pohe as she took my nannys maiden name (Whaanga). In between her are her two children. I have made a love heart as they are both girls and carry the same last name. On the left side of the love heart is Aleisha who is the oldest daughter, the smaller one on the right side is Brooke the younger daughter.

My Special Place Mahia

My Special Place Mahia

The huge blue sign pointed us the way into Mahia.

As we went along dust was flicking up on the gravel road.

The big yellow house was in my sight.

I could see my nanny from a far distance.

Standing on the balcony as she does, waving her hands around.

“I am finally here” I mumbled.

Salty sea water drifted through the wind as it tickled my nose .

Waves crashed among the rocks scaring the few fish away.

The car door opened and I felt freedom.

I am officially home again as I smelt my nan's fragrance.

Christchurch Art

Christchurch Art

I read an articular in a book about how these artist have come to Christchurch and made the city into a better place by painting murals where building have capitalizes . I really like this book as it explained how this comes to life and they put some really cool quotes in the book too.
