Favorite Burger Fillings
We are peppering for our market day. Room 16 & 7 are doing sliders (mini burgers). A couple days ago Aniela and I went into some classes to do a survey. We found out what filling students would like. https://docs.google.com/a/parkvale.school.nz/spreadsheets/d/1fKedKPl3s7tH8qf02Nwd71t5TJ73QE_eJz7tOW3xkJY/edit#gid=0

Home Work Speech
To shave or not to shave that is the question
Today I will be speaking to you about shaving. In my opinion, I think people should shave going for that smooth look.
Firstly, lets begin by telling you what shaving actually is. Did you know shaving is the removal of hair.
Now lets discuss the benefits of shaving. In some religions it is religious practice to shave the head but wouldn't you get cold? Like seriously how does Mr Sevenson feel on a cold winters day?
Head shaving is also common amongst competitive sports such as swimming, running and extreme sports. Lets take Ian Thorpe for example, an Australian swimmer who specializes in freestyle. He has won 5 Olympic gold medals. Usain Bolt Jamaican sprinter, widely regarded as the fastest person ever. What do these two men have in common you ask? They both shave their entire bodies. So shaving obviously makes you faster.
Historically, head shaving has also been used to humiliate and punish. Imagine that. Imagine getting into trouble at school and Mr G saying, Right boy, come here, it’s time to shave your head. You haven’t been showing Parkvale Pride. Be gone with your hair.
And then there is shaving your head, moustache or beard for fund-raising efforts. Isn’t it remarkable to see our Role Models such as teachers, All Blacks, Politicians growing their facial hair in the support of cancer research and charitable organisations only to shave it off and raise money for people who are suffering from this terrible disease that constantly terrorizes us. We all know of someone who has passed away from this. So how incredibly unselfish is it to shave a little hair for the sake of someone else’s health.
Finally, I feel that everyone of us should now see the benefits of shaving. We all want to look gorgeous, be fast and do the right thing by charitable trusts, don’t we? After listening to my speech hopefully I’ve done enough to persuade you to shave.
To shave or not to shave - what will you do?

Hanging out with my friends in the Holidays
The holidays
In the Holidays my friends and I went to the Movies and Inflatable world. I had a great time and I know my friends had an awesome time as well. As Sophia, Bree, Kyrah, Kyrah's brothers and I stepped on the obstacle course we held everybody up as we stood on the top of the slide. At the movies we run past everyone else as the movie was about to start we sat down on our seats and I opened the popcorn, "yum" whispers Bree. Here is a picture of us 4 bffs at Inflatable World

Getting my sport achiever badge
When Miss Hill called my name out for a sport achiever badge I was puzzled and excited at the same time.
I had never thought I would get this badge for some reason, I just thought because I only played 1 sport which was netball and made it to championships for running I might of not gotten it. I had got my envelope that had my name written on it, inside was two badges and a letter. I was so happy but I really wanted academic as well but I am grateful that I got a sport badge.

Optimist yachting on Wednesday
"Watch out we are about to tip". The yacht was filling with water and we were tipping to the right side more, I was trying to lean so it would even the yacht out but know it decided to tip us in the water thank godsends the motor boat and a parent in the kayak came to help us. As for me and my buddy when we got back to shore we were drenched and freezing cold, people I walked passed were like did you capsize did you really. " Um yes, that's our boat floating away out there see I couldn't get it to flip over, so guess what it floated away." After a while the yacht had been picked up and bought to shore. That is my story of a capsize it was really fun however my buddy was a bit to cold in the end so she didn't come back to school, I hope she is alright.

Optimist yachting
Optimist Yachting
As I stepped on the pahi (bus) I said wow what a flash bus we should of had that bus when we went to Palmerston North.
Any way when we arrived at Pandora pond there to greet as was Mr Ford and Miss Hill. My class was kayaking first. I got to be by myself in the kayak. When we went under the bridge I was a bit nervous because my paddle kept hitting the top of the bridge and when I went to lie down I went a different direction. When we came back however a girl capsized and I went to help her but when she hopped on my kayak it started to wiggle and then we flipped in. I quite enjoyed getting drenched.
When we got on the yacht I started to get cold because the wind was blowing. I thought yachting was quite challenging because I didn't know when to stare but luckily my buddy knew the trick. I cant wait to come back tomorrow and see what exiting things the teachers have planed.

Riverdale sport exchange in Palmerston North
As we approached the bus I thought to myself, "Check out that bus" I muttered to my dad who was driving me to school that morning.
Sophia and I sat on the seats behind the toilet, wasn't a great choice as people decided to give us grief for sitting there. Sophia and I were happy however as we joked and laughed with Krya, Bree, Emma, Leilani and Poppy.
Keeping on the toilet theme, the toilets in Woodville were disgusting! There we practiced Tutira Mai Nga Iwi and the boys practiced the Haka. We sounded good.
Back on the bus called Mr D. Sophia and I sang songs on the bus and video ourselves doing it. It was a crack up.
When we arrived, we were met by 3 students from Riverdale, who introduced themselves and led us to the hall. We were greeted by their Principal and then Mr D replied.
Soon we were in our sports uniforms and on the court ready to play. I played centre. I found it challenging as my opponent was a lot taller than me and very skilled. Dam she was good. During the game I needed water, as I took a drink I realised their water was fowl, it tasted like chlorine.
It was a draw 10 all. I made a new friend and overall what an amazing experience.
We got back on the bus and went to the pools. Apparantly, it was meant to be the best pools in the North Island....it wasn't.
We arrived home at about 5ish and Helen was there to pick Conor and I up. We had pizza for tea and I told mum all about my day.
I loved it because it was my first trip away with my new School. I would like to say congratulations to all the others who went to Riverdale today as everyone represented Parkvale with Pride.

Moving Schools
Moving Schools.
Do you ever get that feeling where huge butterflies fly around in your stomach and you feel a bit funny? Well today it was like that. I had moved from Henry Hill in Napier,to Parkvale in Hastings. I was getting nervous and even a bit speech less. My lips were going dry and I was getting shy. I don’t know why, because I’m normally quite confident when meeting someone new.
I met my new teacher, Mr Cottrell. I wonder what he thought of me. The bell had rung and two girls Tiana and Georgia came to introduce themselves. While my teacher was doing the register we all got into a circle for circle time. I found out all the kid’s name’s in my class and what they enjoy. It was Mr Cottrell’s turn to speak now. He is a tennis coach and his favorite subject teaching us is P.E and wants to teach us more of it.
It was my turn to introduce myself. I said that I enjoy athletics, netball and soccer and then I heard Mr Cottrell whisper “who’s your mum”. Yeah thats right my mum is Mrs Hardaker and she is a teacher at this school in room 19.
So now you know what butterflies feel like on my part of the story.Friday, 15 August 2014

I got to the start of the track, my adrenaline was pumping and I was ready to roll until this boy whispered,
“Sophie what are you doing? You're a girl, you can’t race us boys”.
As I Gulped I said to myself, maybe I can’t do this, he might be right.
The competition had just started and I could hear birds tweeting up in a tall tree.
I came to one of the steepest ramps in the competition.
Everyone I looked at was cheering, I knew they were relying on me.
It was nerve wracking, I’ve never been down one of these ramps before, I was petrified.
As my engine accelerates I got my confidence back. I was ready to go 42km down this ramp.
Woah! I yelled throwing one hand in the air.
Now I’m in third place I better go catch up to these boys, I thought in my mind.
As I skid around a bendy corner, I can see a boy up a head.
Now is my chance I chant in my head.
I just past Mac, I have raced him a couple of times in some other Motor bike comps.
“ Hey I never knew you could beat me, you must of improved,” Mac Shouts.
“ Hey I never knew you could beat me, you must of improved,” Mac Shouts.
Home strege is in site I need to finish first.
The judges called out “come on Soph speed up you can do this.”
Thats right I can do this, I mumbled
I saw the other contestant in front of me
Now is my chance, I press harder on the petal and fly past the boy in front of me. The finish line is right there, the judges are smiling and the crowd is cheering. The commentators are talking about the finish and how well I did. I have never been in this situation before where I’m excited and nervous about getting a gold medal.
What a great felling!

The Beep Test
Today was the day of the beep test. A beep test is a fitness test where you run 20m and try to make it to line with out the beeper going of. I thought I did well with a score of 2.6. I think my goal this year is to improve my fitness and go up 2 or more levels next term.
Yeah Kiana you are going to nail this and get a better score, my friends chattered well we were walking to the court. The beep test had started and we were all in a line, in a line isn't Aniela and Rogan meant to be in front. I had just beat my score that I got last time I was so pleased. After I got to number 12.4 I was so tired I stopped. I think I determinant myself to do my best. Now my feet are killing me they are stinging so hard and I have a blood blister on my foot.

My water cycle writing
How the water cycle works
Have you ever wondered how the water cycle works? Well the water cycle has a very important job it repeats it’s pattern continuously and uses evaporation, condensation and transpiration. Water is vital to the earth. If we didn't have water we wouldn't be alive.
Evaporation: When the sun heats up the water it turns it into mist and then evaporates into the air. When the water droplets reach a certain part of the sky it forms a cloud.
Condensation: This is all the water that is evaporated from the sun to form a cloud but when the cloud gets too heavy it rain’s sometimes it can cause floods in the oceans, rivers and lakes and when the rain lands on mountains the snow start to slide this is called surface runoff
Transpiration: Transpiration is just like evaporation but it works with leaves, the water comes out of the leaves from the plant or tree and evaporates into the air and makes a cloud.
So maybe you and your friends can help by planting more greenery in the world and being a good participant to the earth.

My bread recipe
My Bread recipe
Do you know how to make bread? Continue to read and you can learn how. There are many ways to make bread but today I am going to show you how I was taught. The task was to cook a meal with your whanau. Make a presentation about it and bring some for Mr Cottrell.
First: Wash your hands thoroughly.
Next step your ingredients: 2 teaspoons of yeast (if you don’t have yeast add 2 teaspoons of baking powder), 4 cups of flour (add a bit more if wanted), a half a cup of warmish water (add more if needed) and 1 teaspoon of salt.
Method: 1.Put the yeast in a container and add warm water to it do not add hot or cold water because it will kill the yeast. Next put the yeast up somewhere where the sun can reach it. After that leave it for 10 to 15 minutes and the yeast will start to rise. When you see that your yeast has rose halfway tip it into your bowl.
2. Tip 4 cups of flour into a bowl and mix the yeast and flour together.
3. Once the flour is stiff add 1 cup of water and start mixing the flour and water together then normally I tip a quarter of flour into the bowl and add the water that is left.
4. Mix until all lumps are not seen in your mixture.
5. Preheat your oven to 375.
6. Once your mixture stiff enough and not gooey tip it out on a chopping board (and a tip put some flour on the chopping board before you tip your mixture).
7. Now that your mixture is on the chopping board start kneading. If you don't know how to knead I’m hear to help. Firstly you put the palm of your hand on the bread and flip it over, then your other hand flips the other side over and that pattern will keep going continuously for 8 minutes.
8. Spray your cooking tray will cooking spray but if you don’t have cooking spray just use butter.
9. Now it is time to put the bread in your tray.
10. But your bread is not ready to go in the oven yet. You have to put it somewhere warm like the fire where it can rise for 45 minutes.
11. Now its time for your bread to go in the oven. Set your timer for 30 minutes and turn the oven
light on to so you can see it cook and rise even more.
12. Once that is done you have lovely bread to munch on.

Waka trip
Today room 7 had an awesome exprience to get out of school and learn about the Taki timu waka at the Ngaruroro river (Clive river). This was an amazing opportunity for working as a team. I learnt new things about the waka Taki timu and how they used it in the past and some of my ancestors. I enjoyed going under the bridge because when the gentlemen that owns the waka Jim yelled the maori chants out it was very loud.

My sun and anti bulling rap and song
Today room 7 went into room 6 and performed there sun and anti bullying raps and songs. All the students in our class had an opportunity to have a go. In my sun rap group there was 4 of us Georgia, Tiaana, Blair and I made a group. Together I thought my group persevered because we struggled making beats but in the end we nailed it.

This is mine and Georgia's anti bullying song. Georgia and I made this song up in our lunch break as well as learn it to. I think we worked well as a pair together and finishing our song in a certain amount of time.Kiana and G from Tipene Cottrell on Vimeo.

PE Reflection
Walt:Do a chest pass
Netball skills

- Make a W with our hands to pass
- Step forward with one leg and pass the ball
- Push the ball forward from your chest
- Keep your eyes on the target that's coming towards you
I think I did well chest passing to other people and stepping forward. I enjoyed the zig zag drill because you had to be fast and in netball you are only aloud to hold the ball for three seconds. I learnt that the Maori word for netball is Netiporo.
